Look I just have to say it right off the bat- this book was weird. I never really understand the whole I'm going to kill you but first I'll fall in love with you so I'm going to fight my very nature not to kill you. That's romance? I want you dead but first I'm going to bang you?
Back of the Book
Fueled by her family's murder years ago, Dr. Marlena Bender has devoted her life to understanding violent criminals. But when a serial killer in this small Southern town starts taking the lives of women in diabolical ways--leaving trophies of his kills on Marlena's doorstep--it all hits too close to home. Terrified, Marlena turns to the only man she can trust...the man who saved her life. Sheriff Dante Valtrez would move heaven and earth to keep Marlena safe, but he's not the savior she thinks he is. A dark legacy runs through his blood and a dangerous secret lies within him. Now a fierce, hot, ruthless desire draws Dante and Marlena together--as a demonic force from his past threatens to rip them apart, destroying everything they hold dear.
My Thoughts
So Dante is some sort of demon who is ordered to kill off Marlena when he was in her teens. He refuses and allows her to escape. He is one of many and the others did mange to knock off the rest of her family causing her untold amounts of emotional trauma. She disappears becomes a world renowned psychologist and returns to town determined to find out exactly what killed her family that night ever so long ago. Dante now sheriff can't risk her ever knowing. But something evil is killing people around town. Someone or something that may be one of her patients.
The premise is awesome. The execution less than stellar. Look I am a reader and if you make me double back time and time again to figure out what the hell is going on, I'm going to get annoyed. Plus the relationship between the two was unbelievable at best. Weird at the worst. Very dark. Good Suspense. But I'm giving this a could be missed rating.

Zoe think it helps when you read the first two books than this one. You are right though, the flashbacks and all get kind of old... I was hoping for a better story by book 3 myself...
