Every once in a while I'll half-hazardly pick up a book and it will turn out to be exactly what I need at the time. I use books like other people use Valium- the more stressed I am, the better a great book will calm me down. Need to solve a problem but the old noodle won't give up a good idea- go read a book. Need to not strangle the kids- go read a book. Need to not jump the new hot neighbor (GOODNESS, IS HE CUTE!!!!)- go read a book. Instant Calm between the covers.
I was stressed-stressed-stressed- Too Good to Be True was the perfect antidote. Cute, funny, light-hearted, lots of interesting little details that make the story move along. This is the perfect mindless read.
The main character is someone you’d like to befriend- a history teacher during the day, a Civil War re-enacter on the week-ends. Grace is jilted by her fiancĂ© just three weeks before the wedding- so he can date her younger, prettier sister. Finally frustrated by the over-abundance of pity, she invents a ‘boyfriend’ -a pediatric surgeon. In other words a real person with real screw-ups.
When gorgeous neighbor Callahan O'Shea moves in, she finds her lie blows up in her face. Up till the very end the reader is left to wonder-will these two ever make it work?
