The Year of Disappearances

I had to re-start this book three times before I finally knew enough to proceed. That might imply this is a poorly written book. It’s not- just paired down to the bitter bones. Don’t expect a lot of fluff, overly descriptive scenes, or overwrought emotional moments.
Fourteen-year-old Ari Montero is half human and half vampire. Recently reunited with her mother, author Susan Hubbard informs us they have recently moved to small town Homosassa Springs, Florida and has suffered a fire.

A series of disappearances fill Ari’s life; her father, the bees, her new friend, Mysty. When ugly rumors circulate the small town, Ari leaves for college losing her new mother as well. It’s there, Autumn, another new friend, is murdered.

Learn from my mistake- read The Society of S first. You will probably enjoy this latest installment better.

If I have any complaint-it’s the disappearance of the bees- unfortunately after M. Night Shyamalan’s fumble-the plotline is not one I can take seriously. However, I can concede it was necessary as it set’s up the ultimate Plot- Who ultimately will inherit the Earth?

I am intrigued enough to go back and read The Society of S. Hopefully it's worth it.
