My name is Zoe Right and I L-O-V-E Laurell K Hamilton's writing. So much so I commonly refer to the main characters by their first name as though they are some distant relation- well at least in my head…not to other people. That would just be weird.
Despite the fact I get teased non-stop at home, I have each one in hardcopy. Hey for me that’s big- especially since I recently decreased my collection from 1,600 books to under a hundred. So of you have a space on the Right bookshelf it must be love.
I enjoy the Anita Blake series but I adore the Meredith Gentry.
Why you may ask? Is it the endless parade of beautiful men she has magical encounters with? Sure to a certain extent… I like a well written hot and heavy scene. Let’s face it- no one writes a better sex scene than Hamilton- no one! The magic? The Fae? The beautiful men? All of those are nice but what truly what holds my interest is Meredith’s ascension to the Crown.
The mystery of it all- the what will happen, can she do it? It’s magic, really.
That being said Divine Misdemeanors was...sighhhhh...a disappointment. Usually I read through each Merry book once as quickly as I can and then re-read several times out of sheer enjoyment. I don't need to re-read this. Not for a good long time.
Did I expect too much? Was it because Swallowing Darkness was so utterly freaking fantastic-I couldn’t help but to be a little let down. That being said DM wasn’t bad. Just not quite as freakin’ awesome as I’m used to.
In the current installment, Merry returns to LA with both her guard and that of her deceased father. A serial killer is hunting the demi-fey and it's up to Merry and her crew to figure out what is going on.
DM feels like a placeholder, a rushed placeholder but a placeholder never the less. Like any good cliff hanger I can't help but to poised on the edge of my seat. I have faith. I know the next will be better.
