I swear I may have read this book before. That happens more than you would think. Honestly that’s why I started entering the books I read into GoodReads. Mostly so I could track where I’ve been and where I want to go. On average I read between 375 and 500 books a year. No, I am not exaggerating. Now sometimes, I’ll read the same book over and over again. Depending on how good the book is. More on this tomorrow.
I picked 3 Wishes up and stared at the cover, put it down, picked it up, read the back and said why the hell not. Usually I can figure out in a page or two if it’s something I’ve read before. Worst case scenario it goes right back in the book bag and back to the Library.
Well I hadn’t read it before and thank the Book Gods for sending it home with me. I expected it to be a tissue- a read it once and pass it along. But no, no it wasn’t.
Three Wishes tells the tale of three women. Makes sense. But not just any old women but 33 year old triplets, Lyn, Cat and Gemma. Three wonderful strong Australian women who go though that chaos called life. This isn’t your usual ChickLIt. No one is scanning the bars of Manhattan trying to find the perfect man, the perfect drink and the perfect shoes- not necessarily in that order.
No this is ChickLit with a heart. Lyn-pregnant with a step-daughter and a wonderful husband whom she wrangled from another life. Cat thought she was happily married. They were trying to have a baby for Christ’s sake. Turns out her husband had one foot out the door. Gemma- the flighty, lovely, carefree not identical triplet who has a much darker past than anyone knows.
Three wishes is a book that sticks with you- like an extra helping of gravy. You think of these choices, these women, long after you turn the last page.
