I have to admit I was kinda bummed about this book before I even picked it up. From the title you assume this is going to be some feel good chick lit book about a plus size girl who through the power of her own stubbornness loses all her weight and suddenly finds the man of her dreams who truly has been around all this time but who has never noticed her because she was always the "Fat Girl." Or perhaps it's about a pleasing plump girl who is suddenly dumped by her jerk-off boyfriend who no one ever minded because he was such a jerk anyway only to fall in love with her best male friend who has always been in the background waiting for her to wise up. Good fun reading.
But Noooo. Instead it's about a super beautiful thin girl who spends the entire book shirking her job duties in lieu of playing detective. All because she happened to find a skeleton in her new palm beach condo that her super rich but super controlling Mom deeded over to her for next to nothing. Ahhh poor baby.
Wow sounds like I didn't like this book doesn't it? Couldn't be further from the truth. Great book. Good pacing. Main character wasn't too annoying. Mystery was a little obvious. Had that Ahh-Haaa moment 100 pages in and still had a hundred pages to slog through.
From the ongoing but unfulfilled romance with cute PI Liam McGarrity one would assume Rhonda Pollero is looking to make this a franchise. I just have to say main character paralegal Finley Anderson is just strong enough of a character. She's no Stephanie Plum or Izzy Spellman that's for sure. This a fun stand alone book or maybe if she's lucky two but probably no more than that. Even with the support of her stereotypical best friends...the fun but sassy ladies plus the gay BFF.
Take it on the airplane, take it to the beach, take it to Chuck E. Cheese when you turn your kids lose. Fat Chance won't let you down.
