A book about books- so very clever.
I sound sarcastic, hmmm.
I don't mean to, to a certain level it is clever. "They" tell authors- write what you know. Well this author knew how to be an author, how to live in New York, she knew the publishing scene and the crazy-ness of getting published. So she wrote about it.
The title says it all. This is a mystery in which murdered ChickLit authors are showing up around New York City-it's the new heroin chic. Spoiler Alert*** Only it turns out these ladies aren't writing their own books. Quelle Surprise. So therefore they deserve what they get. No, that's not what I think...that's the lightly veiled theme- a little bitter, my darling Lynn?
Lola is a happily married 30-something young Sex in the City Girl stumbling across the bodies of her fellow authors. Well what's a girl to do- but figure out who is knocking off the It-girls of the ChickLit world. And if the investigation happens to boost the sales of Lola own book Pink Slip and give her a lead-in for her next novel well all the better.
Lola is actually likable character, married to an equally likable husband. Their in-jokes are surprisingly modern, sprinkled with 'nerd humor'. Something you don't really see in today's literature very often (unless you are reading a lot of YA). This banter added a level of entertainment to an otherwise predictable mystery.
Worth killing a few hours with-especially if you can manage it poolside, with a margarita in hand, and a pool boy. A cute pool boy. Never mind, forget the pool boy. You'll never get any reading done.

LOL! I love that last part. Yeah, better forget the pool boy. Sounds like an interesting book though. I never heard of it.
Thanks for hopping by my blog! I'm doing the same!

Hahaha, I love this! You should post a book review "ranking system"... like, good by the pool with a margarita, you will read this book even as you're jumping out of a place, or you would sooner have herpes of the eye than finish this book.
