I'm doing something right now, something I never do- trying to write a book review without the book in front of me. Do you know why I have to write this without the book in front of me? Because the teens have snatched it from me and are both reading it. A rarity in and of itself. The boy and I may share some authors. The girl and I may share some authors but rarely do we all read (and enjoy) the same author.
Matt Mikalatos is just one of those awesome writers you can tell is a great person in real life. His personality is broadcast in every word on the page. I suppose I should tell you this is a Christian book written by a Christian author. We aren't a Christian family (well SuperGirl is but we keep her anyway) and we all loved it.
Jesus and Matt have been hanging for a long time. Sure Matt's Jesus doesn't seem to be very effectual but he's always there. A friend in a storm. Until Matt discovers the Jesus he lunches with isn't the real Jesus at all. A fake, a phony, a sham. Matt, with the help of some unlikely assistants, decides he wants to search for the real Jesus but first he must confront his old buddy-Imaginary Jesus.
Not too preachy with more than a couple of laugh-out-loud scenes. Best of all was the remember when conversation the kids and I had in the car. Plus the who is your favorite Jesus conversation. Mine was Testosterone Jesus. Man-child liked Legalist Jesus and SuperGirl really like the Magic 8 Ball Jesus.
Want to know more, watch below.
If you read this, come back and tell me. Who is your favorite Jesus?

Zoe, thanks so much for this great review! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts and I'm so thankful that you liked the book. And tell your teens to drop me a note if they want to...
I also thought I'd mention that Tyndale has a contest going where people can send in their own "Imaginary Jesuses" in art, video or writing and the winner will get a trip for two to Portland to hang out with me and my wife, plus a bunch of stuff people might actually want like Kindles and iPods and so on. Anyway, details on that at myimaginaryjesus.com.
Thanks again for the great review. Let me know if I can do something for the Zoe Reads blog... if you want to do an interview or something like that I would be glad to do that!
Matt
