Look I'll be frank with you, I tend not to like books after a character has had their happily ever after. I don't want to know what Cinderella and Prince do after the wedding. Well I mean I pretty much assume I know what they are doing but you get my meaning.
After my review of Soulless I pretty much thought, I was done with the Alexia Tarabotti Series. She got married what else is there? I mean after all, my friends stopped being quite as much fun after they got married, how can a fictional character still be as much fun?
Au contraire my happy reading friends, I dare say I'm going to have to not only eat my words but my entire philosophy. If possible Changeless is that much better in all it's steampunk glory.
Alexia has escaped her tiresome family in the only way available to young (and not so young) women of her time. She's married Lord Maccon, the head werewolf in charge and settled in as a proper married lady. As we remember from Soulless, Alexia is just that...normal except for her lack of a soul. Additionally she as a “preternatural” nullifies paranormal abilities with the merest touch. She can revert any creature, vampire and werewolf alike to that of a mortal.
From her chaotic home in England to the wilds of Scotland, Alexia is a pleasure to read. Calm at all times, even-heeled despite the circumstance, only she can solve the mystery of what is causing the local population of werewolves to revert to human.
I have to say the ending was a complete surprise. But best of all I only have to wait a scant few days until I can pick up the sequel...Blameless and assuage my curiosity.
